Supporting Every Student to Thrive
Effective pastoral care and a strong culture of wellbeing help students feel safe, known, and ready to learn.
At ISHCMC, we believe students flourish when they are supported as whole people. Academic growth, emotional wellbeing, personal development, and belonging are deeply connected. Our pastoral approach helps students build confidence, resilience, empathy, and the skills to make positive choices in school and beyond.

Pastoral Care
Pastoral care at ISHCMC begins with relationships. Through homeroom, advisory, counseling, and daily connection with teachers, students are supported by adults who know them well and care about their growth.
Our advisory program and Personal, Social, and Health Education lessons help students understand themselves, build positive relationships, manage challenges, and make thoughtful choices. Counselors work closely with students, families, and teachers to provide guidance, support transitions, and, for Secondary students, help with college preparation.
We encourage open communication with students and parents so that concerns can be shared early and the right support can be put in place. Parent workshops and coffee mornings also give families opportunities to explore important topics such as wellbeing, cyber safety, and adolescent development.
Safeguarding
Safeguarding is something we take very seriously at ISHCMC. We are committed to promoting the welfare and wellbeing of the children and young people in our care, as well as those who work in and visit our school.
We aim to provide a safe learning and working environment for students, staff, parents, and visitors. Where concerns arise, staff follow clear reporting procedures and communicate with the school’s Designated Safeguarding Leads.
Every student should feel they have a trusted adult they can speak to about any concern or worry. When needed, we work in partnership with parents and may consult external agencies or specialist professionals to ensure appropriate support is in place.
All staff receive regular safeguarding and child protection training. Teaching and classroom support staff hold basic first aid qualifications, and our school is supported by onsite clinics and qualified nurses.
We also take great care with site safety. Visitors are warmly welcomed, while access to the school is carefully monitored through 24-hour security, camera coverage, sign-in procedures, and a color-coded lanyard system.
Our recruitment procedures follow safer recruitment guidelines, including police, detailed résumé review, reference checks, and a robust interview process.
Wellbeing
Wellbeing is central to learning at ISHCMC. We want students to feel balanced, connected, confident, and able to thrive in school and beyond.
Through our year-long inquiry into “who we are,” students reflect on identity, values, relationships, and the personal attitudes that help them reach their potential. Mindfulness, positive education, advisory learning, counseling, and age-appropriate wellbeing programs all support personal growth and happiness.
Wellbeing also grows through experience. After-school activities, trips, visits, outdoor learning, and community opportunities help students build resilience, independence, friendships, and a stronger understanding of themselves and the world around them.
At ISHCMC, care is not separate from learning. It is the foundation that helps students flourish.
