Language Programs & English Support

Helping Multilingual Learners Thrive

At ISHCMC, we believe every student deserves the opportunity to learn, belong, and communicate with confidence.

We offer two English language pathways. English as an Additional Language (EAL) supports students from Early Years through Secondary who can learn within the IB curriculum with targeted language support. And the Intensive English Language Program (IELP), which is designed for students in Grades 6–7 who need a more focused period of English development before transitioning into the mainstream Secondary program.

Both pathways help students strengthen their English, access learning, build friendships, and feel a genuine sense of belonging at ISHCMC.

English as an Additional Language

English as an Additional Language, also known as EAL, is part of ISHCMC’s wider student support services.

Our EAL approach recognizes that language learning is a personal journey. Students develop their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills while continuing to engage with the IB curriculum. Support is connected to everyday classroom learning, helping students understand subject content, communicate their ideas, and participate with increasing confidence.

This approach allows multilingual learners to make progress in English while remaining fully connected to their classmates, teachers, and wider school community.

Intensive English Language Program

For students in Grades 6–7 with limited academic English, the Intensive English Language Program, or IELP, provides an accelerated pathway into ISHCMC’s Secondary School. It is designed for highly motivated students who are preparing to transition into an international school environment. Students follow a 20-week or 40-week program, with 6 hours of intensive study each day.

IELP follows the framework of the Middle Years Programme and includes Math, Science, Humanities, and Language Acquisition, with a strong focus on English proficiency. Personalized learning plans, inquiry-based learning, daily feedback, and ongoing assessment help students build the language, academic, and personal skills they need to succeed.

Students also take part in co-curricular activities, drama, music, and athletics, helping them build confidence, friendships, and a strong connection to the school community. By the end of the program, students are better prepared to transition into ISHCMC’s mainstream IB curriculum.
