The IB Middle Years Programme

(Grades 6 - 10)

Through grades 6 – 10 at ISHCMC you’ll find a vibrant learning community where students engage in a wide variety of learning experiences through the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP).

The IB MYP builds upon the inquiry-based approach to learning developed in the Primary Years Programme and prepares students for the academic rigour of the Diploma Programme in Grades 11 and 12.

Two high school students studying

At ISHCMC we believe in supporting students to pursue individual pathways with purpose to reflect their interests and passions. We support students extensively to make healthy and thoughtful subject and pathway selections. Selections should reflect that individuality and allow students to be the best student they can be.

All students (regardless of pathway) are eligible to earn the ISHCMC High School Diploma. Students may take any combination of IB and nonIB courses, provided they earn a minimum of 25 credits from Grades 9 – 12 and meet the 95% attendance requirement.

IB Courses (IB Diploma Courses + IS HCMC High School Diploma)

Students may choose to pursue an IB Diploma Courses pathway in individual IB subjects. Normally students would select 6 IB subjects however it is possible to pursue less than 6 subjects. Both these options require consultation and approval from the IB DP Coordinator. If this pathway is pursued, students will take IB classes and complete IB assessments. They will receive an official IB certificate for the IB courses completed. There is no requirement to take three courses at Higher Level and the extended essay and TOK does not have to be completed (although IB Courses candidates may choose to do the EE and/or TOK). CAS must be completed as a graduation requirement from ISHCMC.
