Primary Campus Upgrades
International School Ho Chi Minh City (ISHCMC) is soon to unveil further extensive plans and insights for the ISHCMC Primary Campus. As the secondary students transition to their new Secondary Campus, there are plans in place to refurbish the existing campus to extend its offering for the primary students.
The recent summer vacation (2017) has seen the second phase of this renovation project completed in which the Information and Media Center, previously known as the Library was relocated and received an entire makeover. Plus, new learning spaces for Grade 2 and Grade 3 classes featuring large collaborative corridors and learning lounges to facilitate group study and self-directed learning were created.
COLLABORATIVE LEARNING SPACES
The refurbishment plan is part of ISHCMC’s long-term goal to ensure the current campus is equipped to facilitate the learning experiences taking place. This, paired with ISHCMC’s commitment to specialized International Baccalaureate educators ensures that every child receives an individualized learning experience equipping them for the 21st century.
INFORMATION AND MEDIA CENTER
The new Information and Media Center is a unique space for primary-aged children, offering more than just books, this new area encourages reading, self-study and teamwork with specialized areas such as individual inquiry pods, study pods and collaborative zones. Partnered with multi-purpose tiered landscapes that boast seating areas, storage and book shelves to ensure differentiated spaces. The area has been designed to ensure study areas that allow connectivity and can also be moved and recreated swiftly and with ease to enhance investigations relating to units of inquiry. A serpentine feature wall allows for multiple experiential spaces while a bean bag wall allows students to have flexibility and ownership of the areas.
OUTSTANDING DESIGN AWARD
The Information and Media Center was awarded the 2018 Best Public Service Interior Award, by International Property Awards, for the outstanding design. This award focuses on design, quality, service, innovation, originality, and commitment to sustainability. The winner was selected from a field of over 800 entries and judged by an independent panel of 80 industry experts.

The new 2016/17 academic year welcomed an insight into what the ISHCMC community can expect from these developments. In line with ISHCMC’s vision to redefine the educational experience these classrooms look forward in developing skills that are relevant and essential for the 21st century work place. The interlinked classrooms, with moveable glass walls allow a flow of learning between spaces, visible sharing of thinking, connectivity and collaboration both in and outside the classroom. The spaces empower students to take responsibility for their own learning by allowing them to work independently from their teachers in spaces that they can adapt to their learning styles.
These purpose-built modern and innovative learning environments paired with trained IB educators specialized in inquiry teaching ensure that students are equipped for their future at university, workplace and life.
The primary campus refurbishment plan commenced in 2016 with the development of new learning areas and breakout collaborative spaces for Grade 4 and 5 students. In addition, primary students also welcomed a new maker space and green screen room designed to inspire and develop creativity and innovation skills.
