For many students, who are not native English speakers, enrolling at an international school where lessons are taught in English can be a challenge. From entry exams to science lessons or conversations with a classmate from other countries, it can feel daunting for a low-level English student to adapt to school life. Every child should have an equal chance to learn and thrive. This thinking underpins our new innovative Intensive English Language Programme (IELP).
IELP program is an academic program, designed to prepare students ages 12 to 13 to succeed at school and life beyond. Its purpose is to support low English level students to earn a rigor of scholastic life at the International School of HCMC and beyond.
Through an intensive 20-week or 40-week program, students will learn to fully engage with an IB-style curriculum covering Maths, Science, Language Acquisition, and Humanities, while improving their fundamental English skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

The IELP curriculum uses the same framework as the mainstream International School of HCMC Middle Years Program (MYP).
While instruction is modified to meet the needs of students at varying stages of English language acquisition, the content of each lesson remains at the same high standard found in mainstream classes.
Students receive daily individualized feedback in the form of classroom projects, homework, quizzes, and tests in order to accurately monitor progress. A variety of online tools are also utilized, designed to effectively track improvements in the key skills of English reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
Most importantly, every student is given the opportunity to engage with the broader International School of HCMC community. This includes involvement in co-curricular activities (CCAs), drama productions, music and athletics as part of the program requirement.
