As an inquirer, Arkesh looked to potatoes for his PYP Project. “I can make potatoes turn on a light” Arkesh claims with enthusiasm. “Though, it needs to be a small LED light.” Something that Arkesh learnt during the prototyping phase after he had researched how to create electrical circuits. Arkesh spent a lot of time designing this project between the Studio 5 learning spaces and the Fab Lab creative area that allows for hands-on construction of student ideas. Well developed skills in reading and Math enabled Arkesh to navigate the trial and error approach of using a potato as an energy source.
MSchool closures and online learning was not going to stop Arkesh from discovering new hobbies and making new friends. When social distancing allowed, Arkesh was outdoors sharing his online learning assignments with new friends in his neighborhood.
Looking to the future, Arkesh is excited about studying Sciences in Grade 6. “There will be new subjects, new people and a new campus for me. I will need to relearn a lot.” All this is said followed by, “I won’t give up and will stay positive.”
