Field Trip to Hoi An

Journey To the Centre of Vietnam

As part of PYP Exhibition, ‘The World of Persuasion’, Year 5 went to Hoi An to find out and develop our understandings of the different forms of expression and persuasion. We traveled by bus to the domestic airport, and then flew to Da Nang. From there, we took a minivan to Marble Mountain. We explored the sites of the mountain, looked in some caves and climbed to a high point where we had a beautiful view of the area.

After visiting Marble Mountain, we went to Victoria Hotel and it was AWESOME! The service there was INCREDIBLE!!! We watched a cultural performance where the people performing played traditional instruments and danced. We had our first dinner on the beach in our groups.

We were separated into Group A and group B and from that we split up into smaller groups. On the first day, Group A went on a boat trip which took them to Hoi An, where the cooking class was held, while Group B went to a lantern factory to take a tour of the workshop and create their own lantern. The next day, the two teams switched activities. Besides that, each group had their own time for the scavenger hunt and this took place in the Old Town.

We had missions to complete form our scavenger hunt sheet. Connected to our scavenger hunt and the Exhibition, we visited Reaching Out, an organization that employed other-abled people. These people make handicrafts, and the money they make from it is shared, 70% is given to the employees, 20% is given to renovate the shop and 10% is given to another organization. On Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, we had beach activities which included games like human chariot, beach soccer, long ball and swimming.

On Wednesday, we had Quiz night! The group that won was the Mighty Tigers. The questions were hard and some questions just required thinking like: ‘Which way does the sun set in Hoi An if it sets in the east in HCMC?’ Everyone had a great time.

We are now back at school with a better understanding of our Exhibition
and ready to continue our work.
