Saigon Junior Mathematics Competition
This Saigon Junior Mathematics Competition, conducted at the ABC International School on Saturday 6 March, was open to all students born after Jan 1, 1996. The International School Ho Chi Minh City was represented by a team of three students from each of grades 6 to 8.
The competition was conducted in three sections, with each section being written by teachers at International Schools in Ho Chi Minh City: Individual; Relay and Puzzle
For all the students this competition was a new experience in which they were required to work together to solve different problems. The Grade 7 team performed admirably in the Individual part of the competition and answered many of the questions posed. In the relay round the Grade 6 team performed the best of the three teams answering the majority of the 22 questions posed in the 40 minute time limit.
For the Puzzle part of the competition where the students were required to solve logic problems; resolve match-stick situations and count shapes in different contexts. Once again the Grade 7 team performed the best of the three teams and placed 3rd out of the 22 teams competing.
As these students represent the future of students entering mathematics competitions it is hoped that they enjoyed the experience and continue to present at future contests to improve on their recent performance. Finally thank you to Mr Bishop and Mr Parsons for writing material for two of the rounds of the competition.
