High School
South East Asian Mathematics Competition 2011
On February 23rd six students from the school set out to represent the school in this annual event. This year the competition was the largest yet with 78 teams and 242 competitors. The students answered over 170 questions in seven different activities.
It is with great pleasure that I report that the team of Hee Ji JUN, Eun Chai KIM and Garima THAKUR were placed 3rd overall when all the points from sections of the competition were totaled. This is an outstanding achievement by this team of three, and represents the best achievement by the school in the six years that we have competed.
Another remarkable achievement was performed by the younger team of Seung Hyun SEO, Melody NGUYEN and Haeyeon JANG, who won the Long Term Question section. This is a phenomenal achievement as they were competing against under 15 students, who were at least one academic year in advance of them. They also enjoyed success in the Activity round in which they were ranked above the older team from the school.
I congratulate all the students involved and commend them for their enthusiasm and outstanding behaviour during the event.
The next Mathematics Competition is for students in grade 6-8 who will compete in the Junior Saigon Mathematics Competition to be conducted on 21st May at the Australian International School.
