Dear Parents
The Mathematics Department is pleased to inform you of the following Mathematics competitions that are available to challenge and extend your child should they be interested in Mathematics.
For the competitions organized and marked overseas there is a cost for their administration and for the presentation of certificates. Please inform your child’s Mathematics teacher if you are interested in participation in one or all of the competitions.
Mathematics Competitions available to ISHCMC students
Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) – one 75 minute competition (multiple choice) conducted at the start of each academic year. Awards are based on the student’s year group.
Date: After school on Monday 23th August
Cost: 120,000 VND for certificate and official results
American Scholastic Mathematics Association Competition (ASMA) – consists of 6 papers each with seven questions with a maximum of 35 minutes permitted to complete each paper. Awards are available for each year group.
Cost: no cost – done as part of Enrichment training
South East Asia Mathematics Competition (SEAMC) – is a team event (3 students per team who must be under 15 as of 1st September, 2010) that is conducted in a different country each year. The event duration is 3 days.
Cost: about $240 US for accommodation, fees plus the cost of plane tickets, which is about $340 US.
Ho Chi Minh City Mathematics Competition (HCMCMC) – two divisions that enable the students to experience the competition that is presented at SEAMC.
Cost: Free

Enrichment lessons:
On Monday and Thursday lunchtimes, during first semester students will concentrate on past SEAMC questions.
Whilst there is no cost for the Enrichment lessons, it is expected that students will attend these lunchtime sessions on a regular basis for one semester. Any student hoping to represent the school at SEAMC must attend the lunch sessions regularly.
